I began my hair career as an apprentice at a curly hair specialty salon in 2005 while studying music at the University of Arizona. I love all hair types and especially enjoy teaching clients how to create styles and care for their hair on their own between salon appointments. My specialties are soft, pretty color and simple, versatile haircuts.
I keep up with the newest hair techniques and trends by attending webinars, reading trade articles, and have pursued advanced education throughout my career, beginning with a year long apprenticeship. I have taken classes in Las Vegas, Costa Mesa, Tucson, Phoenix, New York and Seattle. Some of my favorites were basics from Paul Mitchell, cutting from Vidal Sassoon, coloring and highlighting from Aveda and styling from TIGI.
Lately, I've really been loving doing hair on Capital Hill because there are so many details that can make your hair more masculine or feminine--I love it when people show up with that kind of challenge!
I was inspired to open Canary Salon as an alternative to salons that are wildly edgy or intimidatingly fancy. An awesome yelper once said "like baby bear's porridge, Heather was just right". I hope that's how you'll feel about Canary Salon every time you visit.
As a Seattle native, I have grown up appreciating each individual's unique sense of style. I’ve also always been a creative person with interests that include hair, makeup, fashion, cooking, and music.
After graduating from the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute, I have continued my education through cut and advanced coloring classes such as advanced balayage training, Bumble and Bumble cutting classes, as well as advanced coloring techniques from Paul Mitchell and Matrix color lines! I believe in creating a relationship with my clients to have them look and feel the way they’ve always aspired themselves to be.
I excel with men’s cuts, creating a “lived in” soft women’s cut and color, as well as any dramatic fashion color transformations! Overall, I want to make you feel confident and trendy as you whisk yourself away onto future endeavors!

I have always been a creative person. From painting and acting as a child, to studying creative writing at Western Washington University, the impulse to be artistic has always been a driving force in my life.
In recent years, an awareness of the importance of positive self-image led me to a career in hairstyling, a field where technical artistry has the ability to really make a difference in a person's self-worth. After graduating from the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute, I have continued my education through classes with Paul Mitchell, Wella and other brands, focusing on modern cuts and luxurious, on-trend color. I love to create exciting styles and colors with a contemporary edge and a classic finish.
My goal is to help every person who sits in my chair achieve a personal style that flatters, suits, and empowers them.
