I began my hair career as an apprentice at a curly hair specialty salon in 2005 while studying music at the University of Arizona. I love all hair types and especially enjoy teaching clients how to create styles and care for their hair on their own between salon appointments. My specialties are soft, pretty color and simple, versatile haircuts.
I keep up with the newest hair techniques and trends by attending webinars, reading trade articles, and have pursued advanced education throughout my career, beginning with a year long apprenticeship. I have taken classes in Las Vegas, Costa Mesa, Tucson, Phoenix, New York and Seattle. Some of my favorites were basics from Paul Mitchell, cutting from Vidal Sassoon, coloring and highlighting from Aveda and styling from TIGI.
I was inspired to open Canary Salon as an alternative to salons that are wildly edgy or intimidatingly fancy. An awesome yelper once said "like baby bear's porridge, Heather was just right". I hope that's how you'll feel about Canary Salon every time you visit.
I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska before moving to Los Angeles to attend the Aveda Institute of L.A. I love anything that leads me to be creative, from hair, paints, sculpture, and fashion; I have won national awards in art and clothing design. In 2012, I won Beacon at NAHA (the North American Hairstyling Awards) for creative hair color. I have taken many advanced training classes in both color and haircuts, including most recently Sally Rodgerson's creative women's cutting class at Vidal Sassoon. I enjoy doing balayage and vivid creative colors and my precision cutting really shines in pixie cuts and bobs. I can't wait to meet you soon!

I am so excited to be joining the team at Canary Salon! I have always been a creative person. From painting and acting as a child, to studying creative writing at Western Washington University, the impulse to be artistic has always been a driving force in my life. In recent years, an awareness of the importance of positive self-image led me to a career in hairstyling, a field where technical artistry has the ability to really make a difference in a person's self-worth. My goal is to help every person who sits in her chair achieve a style that flatters, suits, and empowers them. Currently, I am an assistant at Canary Salon. Outside the salon, I enjoy writing poetry, singing karaoke with friends, and perusing secondhand stores for vintage and designer finds. I love to learn new things, try new foods and meet new people - but also have no problem re-watching Kill Bill at home with a plate of nachos!
Carly is currently finishing up our advanced training program. To be a hair model for Carly, email or text the salon with details about your hair and what you're willing to have done and we will get back to you in a few weeks if something opens up! This opportunity is currently only available on Tuesday afternoons.
